Our water sanitation team is working on the early stages of planning how to test the village water sources and find sustainable sources of filtration to provide to the villagers of Tatipaka. Currently, most villagers do not have access to clean water - the town's water supply is not sanitized properly and is left uncovered, so it is often polluted and is an attractive breeding ground for mosquitoes. Because of this, some villagers opt to obtain their water from a small stream within the village; however, this is also filled with trash and pollution.
During the India trip, we hope to partner with a non-profit organization to aid in the development of this particular project. We will be testing water samples from several sources throughout the village and evaluating the efficiency of current methods of water sanitation in households. Our ultimate goal for this project is to provide a long-lasting solution to reduce water-borne illnesses by providing clean drinking water.
