The anemia awareness project was developed after consulting our village doctor about the most common illnesses faced by our villagers. After conducting preliminary health surveys, we learned that around 60% of the villagers suffered from iron deficiency anemia. We are currently working with a team of students at the University of Pittsburgh to logistically plan a medical camp in conjunction with our village doctor to test the villagers for anemia. In addition, we want to implement dietary education and awareness of the illness to the villagers while working alongside non-profits and nutritionists based in India. Our goal is to explore preventative measures of anemia and give the villagers the tools to become self-sufficient when it comes to matters of their own health.
